Digitalizing UHS records and processes

A team from the Ministry of Health (MoH) held a 4-day training to sensitize a section of the University of Nairobi (UoN) staff on the government health digitisation blueprint.

The staff mainly from the Department of ICT and University Health Services were trained on the new Integrated Digital Health Platform (IDHP), AfyaKE which focuses on moving from paper system to digital system, local to global information systems, improving the use of data only for patients care to research and focusing on health care professionals to consumers within the hospital management system.

UoN recognized Exemplary Staff

The Department of Medical microbiology and immunology emerged the best department overall in the performance contract for Financial Year 2021/2022 while the Faculty of Business and Management Science emerged the best Faculty; The Directorate of Information and Communication Technology was the best Directorate in Central Units.

This was revealed when the University held its annual Staff Performance and Recognition Award Ceremony on Monday, 5th December 2022.   

UoN Launched a Gender Resource Center during World AIDS Day 2022 Celebrations

Every year the University commemorates World AIDS Day 2022 every 1st December and this year was not different. This year’s celebrations were marked by the establishment and launch of the first ever UoN Gender Resource Center. The Resource Centre that will be domiciled at the University Health Services, has been established within the #O3plus project that the University has been implementing with support from UNESCO and the Swedish Government and in partnership with UN Women.

 

Along with the Gender Resource Centre, there were other safe spaces that were launched.

University Of Nairobi hosts Microsoft founder Bill Gates

History was made on Thursday, 17th November 2022 as the University hosted billionaire business mogul, Bill Gates.

Bill Gates, who was on his second trip to Africa, went to Makueni County, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and the University of Nairobi.

On his itinerary at the UoN, was an engagement with UoN experts at the Centre for Epidemiological Modelling Analysis (CEMA), a press briefing and a student engagement forum at the UoN Chandaria Auditorium.

UoN to launch Gender Desk, Develop Mental Health Policy: O3 Plus Implementation

As of December 1, 2022, the University community can walk in a Gender desk and anonymously report cases of Gender based violence, rape and any other form of abuse and receive immediate clinical and psychological care.

This was among the approvals that the O3 Plus Institutional Working Group (IWG) was seeking when they paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kiama on Tuesday, 18th October, 2022.

67th University Of Nairobi Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nairobi over the years has upheld the culture of celebrating its academic achievers through graduation ceremonies, it was no different this year, on 23 September 2022, the University of Nairobi held its 67th graduation ceremony. The hybrid event a mix of virtual and an onsite ceremony for the PhD students was held at the Famous Taifa Hall, one of its kind in the nation.

University of Nairobi Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Ratansi hosted the newly appointed Council

The   University of Nairobi Chancellor Dr.  Vijoo Ratansi hosted the newly appointed Council for an induction meeting on 19th August, 2022.

The  Chancellor  congratulated   the Chairperson Prof. Miriam Were and the other new members of the  Council  on their  appointment  and wished  them  noble  stewardship  tasks  in executing  their  function  that lies ahead.

During the meeting, the Chairperson and the new members familiarized themselves with the operations of the University as well all as the conduct and management of council business.

COMMODE TOILET AVAILABLE AT OUR FACILITY

Commode toilets are portable toilets that look like a chair and Designed to be used in the event of sudden illness, injury, or disability. The primary purpose of a commode is to provide an alternative to using a toilet for people who can't get to a bathroom or can't sit on a toilet. This type of commode is often used to transport the user to and from the washroom or to be brought to the user when needed and stored out of the way after use.

Launch of Covid-19 Vaccination Accelerated Programme

UoN’s USAID Fahari ya Jamii project took part in the Nairobi accelerated COVID-19 vaccination campaign launch at Kibra Level 3 Hospital on Thursday, 2nd June 2022. The campaign targets to have at least 70% of the population in Nairobi vaccinated in the next six weeks. Currently, 48.9% (1,492,877) of the population in Nairobi is fully vaccinated against a targeted population of 3,052,494 persons.

7000 Seedlings planted on Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day

The University community and its partners gathered and planted 7000 tree seedlings on Friday, May 13, 2022, on the Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day.

Equity Group Foundation,County Government, National Government,  Shamba Café, Loresho Community and Association of Green champions joined the university to plant and grow trees.

 “We have been planting trees annually for as long as I can remember. When we plant a tree, we show that we have hope; Hope for a better tomorrow,” remarked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama during the official ceremony.
