Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama welcomes over 10,000 new students

The University of Nairobi has welcomed over 10,000 new students for the Academic Year 2020/21.

The new students have been admitted to the six UoN Colleges and the ODeL Campus. This admission process is an important milestone in the history of the University of Nairobi as it is the first time that the institution has conducted end to end academic processes using online platforms.

Anxious individuals imagine the “What ifs” in situations like the one of COVID-19 and as a result experience fear and worry.

Chronic anxiety and stress can have impact in the workplace due to consequences such as burn-out, depression and stigma among others.

APPOINTMENT OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR

I am very pleased to announce Mr. Peter Gathuka has joined University Health Services (UHS) as Hospital Administrator. He has previously worked at UHS in the same capacity and his skills and talents will be a great addition to our team. University of Nairobi is position 10 in Africa according to Webometrics Ranking.

The University of Nairobi is position 10 in Africa according to the just released July 2020 Webometrics Ranking. The ranking web of universities places UoN at position 1 in the East African region and 956 in the world. In the four parameters considered in this ranking, the UoN is position 198 in the presence rank, 1075 in impact, 749 in the openness rank and 1602 in excellence. The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions.

63rd University of Nairobi Graduation Ceremony will be held Virtually on September 25

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama has said, "the 63rd University of Nairobi graduation ceremony will be held virtually on September 25, 2020". He announced this during his Virtual address to Staff and students on July 24, 2020. “We are going to hold the 63rd graduation ceremony virtually on September 25, 2020,” he announced. “We plan to graduate all qualified graduands for PhDs, Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas and fellowships.” The Vice-Chancellor called on all to continue exercising caution by observing the guidelines issued by the government through the Ministry of Health.

United in Prayer

Unity, hope, dependency and service are some of the recurring words that dominated the Interdenominational Annual Prayer Day. The University of Nairobi community gathered in Taifa Hall and online for a time of devotion and reflection on July 23, 2020. The session was led by the Catholic Chaplain, Father Peter Kaigua, Protestant Chaplain Reverend Hosea Mitei and the Muslim Chaplain, Swaleh Mohammed who read the Koran. “After hardship, a relief will come. There is a guarantee given by God that there is no hardship or difficulty that will live forever.

Re-engineered University of Nairobi’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) has been launched

The re-engineered University of Nairobi’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) has been launched. Presiding over the online launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, highlighted the challenges the newly re-engineered will address. “Re-engineering this system has been a journey. I am happy that we used the system in processing the June 2020 salaries. I applaud all the members of staff involved in this process,” he said. “It will bring in the element of accountability which is important.
