LAUNCH OF THE NHIF BIOMETRIC REGISTRATION AT UHS BY THE VICE CHANCELLOR

The University of Nairobi and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) officially launched the NHIF Biometric registration exercise at the University Health Services on Tuesday September 26, 2023. This follows installation of a Biometric kit by the NHIF to facilitate capture real time data of both staff and their dependants.
The Director, University Health Services, Dr. Lucy Muhia, appreciated the support which the Department has been given by both internal and external stakeholders with regard to digitalization of health care services. The recently launched Integrated Health Management Information System (Afyake) was cited as a game changer in reducing turnaround time in all services offered at UoN health facilities.
In his remarks, the Director, ICT, Mr. Paul Kariuki, further detailed the process of acquisition of the Afyake system and the progress made so far. He further outlined the various challenges being faced during implementation, opportunities for further improvement and promised to keep liaising with all stakeholders till full implementation was actualized.
The NHIF representative, Ms Sarah Njogu, explained why it was necessary for all registered members to have their biometric data captured. This would make it easy to validate claimants and also for the University to process capitation claims for services rendered. The NHIF will continue to support the University in all endeavors and will be available for consultation when needed.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, reiterated the need for digitalization of services for generation of timely reports and data for informed decision-making. He requested all stakeholders to hasten the installation of CCTV cameras and the queuing system for full automation and improve on integrity checks. He further appreciated the NHIF for considering the University of Nairobi as a registration centre and for bringing their services to the University community.
