A team from the Ministry of Health (MoH) held a 4-day training to sensitize a section of the University of Nairobi (UoN) staff on the government health digitisation blueprint.
The staff mainly from the Department of ICT and University Health Services were trained on the new Integrated Digital Health Platform (IDHP), AfyaKE which focuses on moving from paper system to digital system, local to global information systems, improving the use of data only for patients care to research and focusing on health care professionals to consumers within the hospital management system.
The Ministry of Health as part of its collaboration with UoN offered training to the University of Nairobi Health Service (UHS) staff on how they can integrate the new integrated system within the University hospital. UoN was selected by the Ministry of Health as a partner of its system with the aim of working with the University Health Services.
The team from the Ministry of Health gave a presentation on the Afya KE health management system, going into detail on its functionality and usage, focusing on the registration, communication and reports and analytics with the hospital management system.
The UoN staff were also trained on how to do requisitions right from inception to the final phase of completion. The AfyaKE system is intended to reduce manpower and improve work efficiency in all hospitals and dispensaries.
“We are looking forward to seeing the system help doctors, pharmacists, nurses, records personnel, accountants and also the main store personnel reduce work load,” the MoH Director said.
On her part, the University of Nairobi Health Sciences Director, Dr. Lucy Muhia said accepting the system and using it efficiently will help patients receive services easily.
