The University of Nairobi is position 10 in Africa according to the just released July 2020 Webometrics Ranking. The ranking web of universities places UoN at position 1 in the East African region and 956 in the world. In the four parameters considered in this ranking, the UoN is position 198 in the presence rank, 1075 in impact, 749 in the openness rank and 1602 in excellence. The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama has said, "the 63rd University of Nairobi graduation ceremony will be held virtually on September 25, 2020". He announced this during his Virtual address to Staff and students on July 24, 2020. “We are going to hold the 63rd graduation ceremony virtually on September 25, 2020,” he announced. “We plan to graduate all qualified graduands for PhDs, Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas and fellowships.” The Vice-Chancellor called on all to continue exercising caution by observing the guidelines issued by the government through the Ministry of Health.
The re-engineered University of Nairobi’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) has been launched. Presiding over the online launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, highlighted the challenges the newly re-engineered will address. “Re-engineering this system has been a journey. I am happy that we used the system in processing the June 2020 salaries. I applaud all the members of staff involved in this process,” he said. “It will bring in the element of accountability which is important.
uniRank has placed the University of Nairobi at position 7 in the 2020 African University Ranking. The ranking recognizes the most popular top 200 higher-education institutions in Africa. Interestingly, the first 6 universities in the ranking are from South Africa led by the University of Pretoria. University of Cape Town and University of Witwatersrand are in position 2 and 3 respectively. In East Africa, Kenyatta University was ranked 16 followed by Makerere University at number 20.
