VIRTUAL CARTOON FESTIVAL ON AFRICA AND COVID-19
The University of Nairobi in collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kenya intends to hold African Cartoon Festival on COVID-19. This festival is solely for African and Iranian cartoonists. The secretariat will receive the artworks of the cartoonist from all over Africa.
Mankind is now faced with a global pandemic. Perhaps the biggest pandemic of our generation. The outbreak of the corona virus disease (COVID-19) has made all borders redundant as it infects people without discrimination. It does not differentiate between nations or cultures. Such pandemics often alter the course of history and disrupt most predictive Global indicators.
Africa within this context of COVID-19 pandemic has to play its role just like the other continents. It goes without saying that most African countries have taken deliberate steps to boost their people’s well-being by providing social transfers to the millions whose livelihoods have been affected. This remains a powerful and fast-acting initiative that will do much to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of millions of the most vulnerable populace.
This brings into focus viability of our testing, and the positive cases these countries are likely to have in the months to come. It is upon leaders, institutions, corporates and those in position of influence to utilize the most relatable and effective tools that people have, such as art. Through art, cartoon is one of the most vibrant tools that is fundamental in raising public awareness a well as developing problem solving paths not only in a comical manner but equally through the contextual educational lenses.
In this respect, youths resonate with various artistic talents that can be utilized in illustrating what needs to be done during this period of Covid-19 pandemic as well highlighting what the new world order in post corona era would look like.
Therefore, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kenya decided to hold a virtual African cartoon festival on COVID-19 pandemic, as a way of enabling the people share practical and home grown solutions on how to keep safe during this period and beyond
