UHS hosts thirty 03plus ambassadors from various universities in Sub-Saharan Africa

The University Health Services on April 20, 2023 hosted thirty O3plus ambassadors from
different countries in Africa, led by Ms. Jane Kamau from UNESCO.
The O3 plus Project seeks to promote health and wellbeing among students in institutions of
higher learning in Kenya. The University of Nairobi in partnership with UNESCO and SIDA is
implementing the O3 Plus on Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future in addressing a range of Health
and Wellbeing issues young people are faced with, including gender-based violence, HIV and
other sexually transmitted infections, mental health and access to accurate information on sexual
and reproductive health and services for young people in higher and tertiary institutions.
The team was taken through a tour of the Gender Desk by members of UHS management team
led by the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Peter Gathuka on behalf of the Director, Dr. Lucy Muhia.
The team was further briefed on the various activities the UHS has been leading within the
03plus project including capacity-building for healthcare providers, management of GBV, HIV
and other STIs, and counseling services among other things. The team had an opportunity to ask
questions and learn from the visit, with one of the ambassador noting, “It’s really nice to be here
and learn of all the things the University of Nairobi is doing to support its students’ health and
well-being. We hope to be able to implement some of the things we have learnt today once we
are back in our institutions.”
