Prof. Horace Ochanda is the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Enterprise. A Professor of Applied Parasitology, Horace was born in 1960. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Education (Science) Honours degree in 1985 and a Master of Science (Parasitology) in 1988. In 1994, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (Parasite Epidemiology) from the University of Warwick, UK.
Prof. Ochanda has served in many capacities at the University of Nairobi including being the immediate former Deputy Principal, College of Education and External Studies, Associate Dean (Science), Kenya Science Campus, Quality Assurance Officer for College of Biological and Physical Sciences and Disposal Committee Chairman, Kenya Science Campus. He is currently the Senate Representative to the Embu University College Council, Quality Assurance Board member and ISO Internal Quality Auditor, among others.
Prof. Ochanda has mentored and supervised many BSc, MSc and PhD students and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Some of his research interests include: community-based vector-borne disease control, parasite epidemiology, vectorial capacity of vectors, immune responses of hosts to parasitic infections and Novel control strategies against HIV & AIDS.
