The National AIDS Control Council in collaboration with the University of Nairobi celebrated the 2017 world Aids Day. The theme for this year was “Step Up for HIV Prevention: Youth Na Plan,”

Speaking during the celebrations at the Chancellors Court main campus, UNAids Director Jantine Jacobi noted that currently there are there are 238,987 young people between the ages of 15 to 24 years living with HIV. (Statistics from the National Aids Control Council (NACC).

The youth were urged to get tested so that they can know their status and also to encourage their colleagues who had tested positive to seek treatment which is provided free of charge in public  hospitals.

Kenya was ranked third in the highest newest HIV infections in East and Central African regions especially among the youth.

The University of Nairobi through partners and stakeholders has continued research on HIV/AIDS control and management and is also involved in sponsorship programs to promote management of HIV/AIDS.
